A young, wild rocker, wearing a chansonnier’s straw hat and holding a mandolin. With the “claim” “Contemporary Tradition”.

Marisa Laurito, artistic director of the Teatro della Canzone napoletana, confirms the line of programming virtuously attentive to tradition as much as to the present, with the participation of masters and young artists.

The conclusion of the season that is about to end in June is flattering: 40 show titles, for 78 performances; the talent show Tnt, for 16 evenings; three cycles of sung conferences, which have explored Neapolitan song in depth in 15 concert-lessons; for a total of 109 curtain raisers.

"My artistic direction at the Trianon Viviani theatre – explains Marisa Laurito – could not have been born under a worse star than the one we have had in these two years: the “covid comet".

But fortunately in my childhood, I read many books about brave captains and the sea, learning that it is precisely in stormy times that interesting challenges can arise. Creativity and ingenuity increase when you have to overcome dark moments and often inventiveness is born from crises. It is precisely in these moments that we must work and build together, combining positive energies".

The new program therefore relaunches the productive commitment with an offer divided into nine sections, including theater, music, dance, fairy tales, event evenings: 51 shows on stage, including 5 productions of the Trianon Viviani and 9 world premieres, with 98 total performances, plus four cycles of sung conferences that include 18 concert-lessons.

The season ticket campaign will start in June.

As usual, the season will have a preview on September 23 with the new productions of Viviani on the street: in the unique setting of the Maritime Station of Naples, this third stage of the project conceived and curated by Nello Mascia, sees the staging of “Caffè di notte e giorno” and “Scalo marittimo”, two one-act plays from 1919 and 1918 respectively. Also in September, another show dedicated to the playwright from Castellammare di Stabia to whom the theatre is dedicated: Vivianesque by Gennaro Cimmino, an evening of contemporary dance and music.

The season opens on October 13 with the revival of La donna è mobile, the musical comedy-parody by Vincenzo Scarpetta, staged by Francesco Saponaro, with arrangements and musical direction by Mariano Bellopede, produced by Trianon.

Musical Theater – The other titles in the “musical theater” section are Liricamente Napoli, with Antonio Lubrano, Alessandro Cerino, Raffaella Ambrosino and Francesco Malapena (October 21); Rumore di fondo, which deals with the delicate topic of femicide, with Gea Martire and Antonella Ippolito, directed by Nadia Baldi (November 4); the debuts of Much Ado About Nothing, a Neapolitan adaptation of the Shakespearean classic, written and directed by Giuseppe Miale Di Mauro, with the young people of the Giovani 'Onest group (November 11) and A spasso. Cantata d'ammore, the repertoire production of the Trianon Viviani: the successful musical by Bruno Garofalo, with the musical direction of Pino Perris, which offers a journey through the Neapolitan melodies of the twentieth century with a rich cast of artists led by Ciro Capano, Susy Sebastiano, Francesco Malapena and Gigio Morra (performances from March 24, April 21 and May 19).

Theatre – In this section the prose show Pregiudizi convergenti, written and directed by Domenico Ciruzzi, with Antonella Stefanucci, who plays the double role of a poor and suffering woman, who divides her time between conversations with her husband in prison and judicial interrogations, and that of the public prosecutor, who has no qualms about using his “power” to gain small personal benefits (12 May).

Dance and Music – In addition to the Vivianesque show in September, this section hosts Neapolis mantra, a multidisciplinary work created by the Italian-African director and choreographer Mvula Sungani: inspired by contemporary Neapolitan culture, it sees the interaction and interpenetration of dance, live music and words. The protagonists are Emanuela Bianchini, Enzo Gragnaniello and the performers of the Mvula Sungani psychical dance (April 15).

Concerts – The concert program opens with Enzo Avitabile, who performs in Napoletana, a special acoustic concert dedicated to the song, which also sees the use of an instrument such as the harpina invented for the occasion (October 22); and with the recital by Andrea Sannino, Andrè, in world premiere (October 29).

From December 9th, Spacciatore will be on stage, written by Andrej Longo and directed by Pierpaolo Sepe.
