GITA, a robot that carries parcels and suitcases and interacts with the user, and is also eco-friendly, arrives in Procida, the Italian capital of culture.
"It will help to rethink the mobility of our cities, which will have to free themselves as soon as possible from the centrality of cars, rethinking a model that is now outdated and no longer sustainable, if we really care about the fate of the planet.".

This was stated by American designer Jeffrey Schnapp, a professor at Harvard University, presenting the “follow-me” transporter robot, created by Piaggio Fast Forward, to the Italian market for the first time. Schnapp was the protagonist of the second event of “Exercises on the Future”, curated by Innovation Village, with the support of the United States Consulate in Naples.

Already launched on the American market, the robot is able to interact in a simple and intuitive way with the user's movements and to interpret the complexity of the pedestrian world in real time, providing for the transport of luggage, personal objects and tools of all kinds. On Procida its arrival was greeted with curiosity by residents and tourists, involved in the practical demonstrations of its use.

“The future of our cities? Walking, as we have done for millennia. But we will do it,” Schnapp added, “assisted by intelligent objects, just like Gita. Perhaps taking inspiration from the 15-minute city model, a process started in metropolises like Paris, and with an increasingly widespread growth of micromobility, with an ecosystem in which the automobile is no longer the protagonist, but, for example, e-bikes and scooters, with low costs and reduced environmental impacts.”

“The theme of sustainable mobility is also central to our island,” said the mayor of Procida, Dino Ambrosino. “The objectives of the UN 2030 agenda, sustainability first and foremost, guide our cultural program, which speaks to an audience of young people and very young people,” underlined the director of Procida 2022
