The forbidden dream of a permanent job, the career goal of many generations. Checco Zalone made a film about it to tell the "legend" of the permanent job. For years in Italy, you could almost "count" on a competitive exam that would sooner or later guarantee you a permanent job. Parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and uncles—every one of us had someone in our family who had a permanent job. Yet this opportunity, which along with others helped build Italy, has now vanished. Or rather, it has changed.

Accomplice the paradigm shift of our time that in a few years has overturned decades-old balances; today the needs are different both for those who offer the job and for those who seek the job.

They are sought professional figures with specific skills, public offices (but also private companies) are looking for candidates with certified skills with respect to the job that should be done. It is understood (finally)  the importance of having competent people in the field.

The emblematic case is that of the Municipality of Bozzolo in the province of Mantua. The competition for the permanent position from €1800 as head of the technical sector it went to waste despite it being a permanent job worth €1800 gross. The mayor of the municipality commenting on the incredible story summed up the concept: " Evidently times have changed, and the public place is less attractive at the moment . As an administration we have put all our energy into completing this competition. Now we will move differently, to fill the organic gapor ”

Indeed, times are changing, young people are looking for different jobs and the idea of a permanent job remains almost a distant memory of the past, of an Italy that once was.

Is the salary enough?

Is the paid wage enough to live on? Taking as an example the 1800€ of a permanent job offered by the Municipality of Bozzolo in Mantua, are they sufficient?
Some readers in the comments immediately answered yes, others, thinking about it, considered different aspects. Even if €1800 gross seems like a lot, it may actually be little and not even enough. There is the cost of living that should not be underestimated. In cities with a lower cost of living, a salary of €1800 gross may be enough for an average family to live decently, vice versa in a city with a higher cost of living the same salary may not be enough.

In the private sector they pay me more

Another thought published by readers that in private companies you are paid more with different career possibilities; true but if you have specific requirements and skills required compared to the job that is offered. An engineer or an architect with important skills in the work can aspire to something better than the place of an employee at the Municipality.

Citizenship Income

To complicate the discussion, there is the citizen's income: on the one hand, it has contributed to improving the quality of life of many citizens by guaranteeing a minimum income to live with dignity, on the other hand, thanks to a State incapable of enforcing laws and controls, it has created a problem of no small importance. Many citizens who receive the citizen's income are still waiting for a job call from the State, while others do not have too many problems, they receive the income and shoot videos on Tik Tok.
