Barra, the odd couple: a lamb and a pitbull guarding cocaine and TNT.
This is the incredible discovery made by the Carabinieri in a flowerbed in the Via Mastellone neighborhood, between Barra and Ponticelli. A few houses scattered here and there. Lots of asphalt and patches of green yellowed by neglect.
In one of these, in an abandoned flowerbed, the carabinieri found almost half a kilo of cocaine and a bomb stuffed with TNT. Something didn't add up in that triangle of weeds. A lamb and a large pitbull grazing were the two discordant notes.
The Carabinieri of the Barra station, together with those of the operational unit of Poggioreale and the Campania Regiment, wanted to see clearly and, after having obtained the trust of the molosser, they inspected that patch of land.
In a small pit covered by a heavy stone the discovery. A plastic container containing 470 grams of cocaine, still to be cut. And then a cylinder with cotton cord under vacuum.
The control was immediately suspended and the area fenced off waiting for the military bomb disposal experts from the provincial command of Naples. They were the ones who took charge of what was a bomb with a slow-burning fuse to be applied when needed.
In the drum 100 grams of TNT, enough to smash a van or a bar to pieces.
The Carabinieri will continue their investigations to identify the custodian of that dangerous reliquary.
