Water supplies to the island of Ischia have been cut off, as it hasn't been receiving water from the mainland since mid-morning due to an electrical fault.
The blackout at the Melito di Napoli power plant has in fact blocked the activity of the water lifting systems managed by the Campania region which consequently had to completely interrupt the water supply to the largest of the Neapolitan islands.
At the moment it is not possible to predict the end of the emergency since the reservoirs present on the island territory, managed by the Campania Region and by EVI spa, will in turn be closed within a few hours to conserve the stored water levels also with a view to organizing possible shifts.
For this reason, Evi, the island's water company, is precautionarily inviting all island citizens to avoid any waste and improper use of water resources during these hours.
The problem is related to a fault that occurred yesterday on an underground medium voltage line serving the municipalities of Giugliano and Mugnano. At the moment, power has been restored to all customers but not to the water system dedicated to Ischia, whose power request of about 2 MW could not be satisfied with the Power Station installed and activated during the night.
E-Distribuzione technicians are still working on a definitive repair of the fault and expect to restore the electricity supply to the Aqueduct in the very early afternoon.
