Icutting-edge intervention performed at Boscotrecase hospital.
A patient visited at the vascular surgery clinic in Torre del Greco by Dr. Francis Pignatelli he was found to be suffering from a serious abdominal aortic aneurysm. He had to be operated on immediately, there was no time to waste.
And he was immediately operated on thanks to the commitment and professionalism shown at the Boscotrecase hospital by Dr. Pignatelli and Dr. Assumed GuideThe intervention was possible thanks to intense teamwork involving several healthcare facilities of the ASL Napoli 3.
In the haemodynamics room of the UOC Utic of Boscotrecase directed by Doctor A. Varricchio two interventional radiology technicians from the Nola radiology unit directed by Dr. M.L. Mangoni and the anesthetist of Boscotrecase, Dr. A. Naclerio.
In practice, the hospital was involved Greek's tower Boscotrecase hospital and Nola hospital, all facilities of the ASL Napoli 3 which, as one well-synchronized team, operated on a critical patient.
All this was possible thanks not only to the professionalism of the individual skills but also and above all to the coordination capacity and professionalism of Dr. Francesco Pignatelli, head of the UOC of General and Vascular Surgery of Torre del Greco.
In the absence of this intervention, the patient would have suffered the serious consequences of imminent death from an abdominal aortic aneurysm. An aneurysm is a serious and permanent dilation of a blood vessel, generally an artery, which swells until it ruptures, causing a intense bleeding. A treacherous pathology, difficult to diagnose and requiring immediate intervention: 6000 deaths each year in Italy are due to abdominal aortic aneurysm.
A pathology so serious that 80% of patients die before reaching a hospital, of the remaining 20% operated on urgently, half will still have an unfortunate outcome: death. This is why we must intervene immediately with the best medical excellence. A life saved only by the particular skill of the doctors involved.
