Castellammare. “An authoritative woman with a heart of gold. A gentlemanly, professional principal, always available for discussion and dialogue.”
Thus begins the farewell letter from the teachers and all the ATA staff of the Bonito Cosenza school in Castellammare addressed to the principal Maria Giugliano in view of her retirement.
And then they continue: “An elegant director who has governed Bonito Cosenza for fifteen years, transforming it into a school open to the territory and to innovation. As an authentic captain, she has always united and never divided, pushing teachers to dare in the name of innovation and offering everyone an opportunity to stand out.
Fond of the Bonito Cosenza school community, she directed it with scrupulousness and balance to the point of feeling it as a second family. Prima inter pares, she treated parents, students, ATA staff and teachers with deep loyalty and with the door always open.
Indeed, during the lockdown, the presidency became a sort of friendly classroom where the kids found a word of comfort to defeat the fear of contagion and fight the phobia of gatherings. In addition, with great timing, our director did her best to offer connectivity, tablets and smartphones to those who did not have them so that they could follow and not be left behind.
He worked, silently and meticulously, for the growth not only of the school but also of the entire San Marco neighborhood. A corporate man, almost a workaholic, he conveyed trust and respect with his mere presence. And now, like any self-respecting fairy tale, we have come to the conclusion.
With justifiable pride, however, we can say that only we have had the privilege of having Maria Giugliano as principal since her managerial career began and will end at Bonito Cosenza from which she never wanted to separate.
On the other hand, he leaves a piece of his heart here along with many memories, smiles, some tears and sincere friendships. It would make you want to sing, like Baglioni, so you go away, no joke, but we know that retirement is the right goal of a working life.
What would we wish our dearest Director? To reach important goals in other fields, to always encourage us to expect the best from ourselves, to not conform and to feel an integral part of a Community with a great history behind it and another one ahead of us yet to be written.
Thank you Maria, thank you principal Giugliano, thank you from the bottom of my heart where, more than ever, you will live forever. Your teachers and the entire ATA staff”.
