Investigators rule out that the kidnapping is the "work of organized crime", which historically does not want kidnappings and sensational acts in the territory in which it operates. Nor that it is “linked to a ransom note”: the family has no financial problems, but neither does it have the resources to justify an extortionate kidnapping.
The woman lives in Mascalucia, where she filed the complaint by going to the Carabinieri station. She allegedly told the military that her daughter was kidnapped by three people who stopped her while they were in the car in the Piano di Tremestieri Etneo hamlet after she had picked up the child from nursery school. Investigations and searches were immediately started in the area and extended to a wider area.
The Carabinieri also acquired and viewed videos from surveillance systems in Piano Tremestieri and also in the nursery school attended by the child to find elements useful for the investigation.
