The famous actor Gary Oldman will receive the François Truffaut 2022, the most prestigious award of the Festival. International guest of the 52nd edition, the undisputed cinematic icon will meet the jurors on July 28: over 5000 jurors will be ready to welcome him.
In 2011, Oldman was honored with the Empire Icon Award, given to him for his extraordinary achievements throughout his exceptional career. In 2018, thanks to his memorable portrayal of Winston Churchill in the film Darkest Hour, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, the BAFTA, the Golden Globe, the SAG Award and the Palm Springs Award.
He has been nominated for three Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, four Emmy Awards, four Empire Awards, six London Film Critics Awards and numerous other awards and accolades for his work as an acclaimed actor, writer and director.
During the meeting with the Giffoners, Oldman will retrace his eclectic career. The jurors will be captivated by the stories and anecdotes linked to the actor's multiple roles, including Commissioner Jim Gordon (Batman's right-hand man in the fight against crime), Dracula, Beethoven, George Smiley, Sid Vicious, Herman Mankiewicz and the terrorist who hijacks the Air Force One on which Harrison Ford is traveling.
His portrayal of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films brings the invisible to the fore, this year’s theme, reminding us that “we all have both light and darkness within us,” but also the power to choose which path to follow.
Universally recognized as one of the leading actors of his generation, Oldman has amassed more successful film roles than any other actor active in the last twenty years.
He has starred in fourteen blockbuster films in the United States and around the world. His films have earned billions and billions of dollars, making him, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the highest-grossing actor in film history.
