Pozzuoli. The outgoing mayor Vincenzo Figliolia comes out into the open commenting on the accusation made against him by Prosecutor's Office of Naples of the granting of food vouchers in exchange for sexual services.
“I can only express my deep regret for the publication in the main newspapers of a strictly personal matter that, evidently, should have remained confidential in the procedural context, the unlawful connotations of which I truly cannot understand”Vincenzo Figliolia writes in a note.
“My regret – Adds Figliolia – it is nothing compared to the suffering I feel, because I am aware that what happened has deeply and unjustly wounded the dignity of my children, my wife and my elderly mother who have always been forced to share and, often, to suffer, my boundless love for the city where I was born.
Love that, unfortunately, did not allow me to be a present father and a caring husband. Regardless of any consideration on the veracity of the published facts, I humbly ask them for forgiveness”.
Figliolia then dedicates “a thought also to those with whom I shared the love for Pozzuoli who, despite being aware of the difficulties caused by the searches in April, still decided to trust me and participate with me in the campaign for the election of the mayor of Pozzuoli.
I also feel the need to apologize to them in the hope that this incident will not have any repercussions on the choice that citizens will be called to make on June 26th.
All this, however - he continues - gives me even more strength to demonstrate the absolute correctness of my actions as a person and as a public administrator, solely aimed at guaranteeing the city of Pozzuoli the best opportunities to allow it to compete on equal terms with other renowned locations in our region as a destination of international tourist interest and, with reference to the story published this morning, the absence of any exploitation of my function or the improper use of administration assets.
I only hope that I do not have to wait more than 10 years to prove my innocence, as has already happened in relation to the fish market affair. Proceedings at the end of which, as is known, the Court of Appeal of Naples not only recognized my innocence, but underlined the usefulness of my administrative initiative aimed at solving the problems for which I was accused”, concludes Figliolia.
