LMonday 13 June at 18,30:XNUMX pm at the Provincial headquarters of the Italian Confederation of Farmers in Benevento, the presentation event of the O.Ri. del Sannio project will be held.
The Project: Organization and Repositioning of the dairy-cheese sheep supply chain of the Sannio Apennines – financed by the PSR Campania Region, Measure 16.1 action 2 in support of operational Innovation projects – was created with the aim of contributing to the growth of the Sannio sheep sector. Sheep farms in the province of Benevento represent 34% of the regional scenario, with an interesting demographic distribution that includes 46968 heads raised in 1081 farms located in the hilly and mountainous areas of the Sannio province (Fortore, Titerno, Alto Tammaro and Taburno).
The Sannio sheep sector, although well represented by a significant sheep population, suffers from management and organizational shortcomings in the supply chain, which is still not very inclined to technological innovations.
"The O.Ri. del Sannio project – explains Ettore Varricchio, professor of Quality and Techniques
of Food Production at the University of Sannio and Scientific Manager of the Project – bases its potential on animal welfare and the excellent nutraceutical and nutritional qualities of fresh forage from medium and high hill pastures with the primary objective of strengthening the link between production and Bio-territory to increase company competitiveness and conquer more profitable market segments".
The operational group of O.Ri. del Sannio – whose leader is the Italian Confederation of Farmers Benevento – CIA – is composed of five companies in the primary sector: Azienda Agricola Meglio Nicola, Azienda Agricola Vitelli Maria, Azienda Agricola Vitelli Pasquale, Azienda Agricola Colantone Cristina, Azienda Agricola Mastrocinque Gianpasquale; the University of Sannio with the Department of Science and Technology and the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Southern Italy of Portici, as Research partners.
The agricultural entrepreneurs participate with competence and interest in the innovation of the project convinced that standardizing the production model of the Sannio sheep sector will lead to the repositioning of the dairy supply chain and also the young entrepreneurs will be able to benefit from this experience.
