By boat to understand, and appreciate, the maritime identity of the island. With exceptional Cicerone: the fishermen. From Friday 1 to Sunday 3 July, as part of the initiatives of Procida Italian Capital of Culture, the project “Nutrice” returns: in a series of free appointments, citizens accompany the “temporary citizens” through an intimate experience of the food process, from the vegetable gardens to the sea, a crossroads of ancient stories and still a source of subsistence and trade for many island families.
Departing from the port of Marina Corricella, participants in the free tour (duration two hours, reservation required; max 30 participants, info and reservations www.procida2022.com/nutrice) will board a fishing boat and a support boat together with the fishermen, taking part in a mini cruise that includes a stop for a fishing trip using the “palamito” technique, in which all members of the group can participate.
The fishermen will tell their experiences in a journey of sharing the real identity of the territory. After the boat ride, there will be a show cooking and a tasting of lemon sorbet by Sandro Quirino, owner of “Chiaro di luna”, accompanied by a performative intervention by Vincenzo Esposito.

The “Nutrice” project – conceived by Procida Italian Capital of Culture 2022 together with Confcommercio Isola di Procida, Casartigiani and Amira – takes its name from Aeneas' Nurse, the name that Dionysius of Halicarnassus is said to have given to the island of Procida and is centered on “on the awareness that food does not only fulfill the function of nourishment, but is deeply connected to the emotional, identity and social dimension of a community”, as underlined by the director of Procida 2022, Agostino Riitano.
The tour will be repeated on August 5, 6 and 7 and, with different modalities, on September 2, 3 and 4 and October 7, 8 and 9.
