Lake Miseno has been cleaned up, with sewer pipes removed that were dumped over 20 years ago. This work was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Campania Region and the Municipality of Bacoli.

The waste removal operation from Lake Miseno by the Bacoli administration has begun, as part of the extraordinary cleaning plan for the lakes of the Phlegraean Fields financed by the Campania Region.

The total allocation is 300.000 euros for three years (starting in 2021). The first 150.000 euros are earmarked for cleaning and proper waste disposal. Two more tranches of 100.000 and 50.000 euros are available for 2022 and 2023.

“We did it! We are removing the sewer pipes that, over 20 years ago, were dumped in Lake Miseno. With the crane, we are freeing the lakebed from tons of waste. It is a beautiful day for Bacoli. For the environment, for the protection of nature. In defense of one of the most important symbols of the Campi Flegrei. No longer a landfill, no longer a sewer. But a resource. One of the beating hearts of our city. A few steps away from what was, two thousand years ago, the most important military port of the Roman Empire. Along the bike path. Among the most crossed in the province of Naples.”- writes the mayor of Bacoli Josi Gerardo Della Ragione on Facebook –

“A work made possible thanks to the synergy between the Campania Region and the Municipality of Bacoli. I thank the regional councilor Francesco Emilio Borrelli, for supporting this just cause. Allowing us to obtain a very important funding. Alone, as a bankrupt entity, we would never have succeeded. We started with works that will improve the health of the “Maremorto”.

We must continue like this. Because there can be no sustainable and quality tourism without caring for the environment. Together, we will always do better. One step at a time.”

"We are very satisfied with how things are going and with the way in which the Bacolese administration, to whom we offer our most sincere compliments, is using the funds made available by the Region, disbursed thanks to one of the 4 provisions, as connected to the 2021 budget, proposed and approved by us. This is the right way to concretely safeguard the environment and the natural resources of the territory. Now we expect the new mayor of Pozzuoli Gigi Manzoni to also use these funds for the lakes of his municipality to start a series of cleaning and reclamation actions" – commented the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
