It is a dismal result for the city among the most branded in the world in terms of tourism: a pitiful picture that emerges from the ranking of the quality of life of the Sole 24 Ore. The Aosta Valley is the most child-friendly territory in Italy, according to the 12 parameters of the generational survey on the quality of life of the Sole 24 Ore. It precedes three Tuscan cities (Arezzo, Siena and Florence) in a top ten where only Oristano (eighth) emerges among a series of provinces in the North of the Center.
Many representatives of the South, especially Sicily, remain at the bottom. The new parameter of schools equipped with school canteens is emblematic, where Aosta stands out with a share of 70,8% while Naples (ranking)- also last in the general classification – wears the black jersey with a sad 5,2 percent.
Quality of life, Aosta, Piacenza and Cagliari the best in Italy
Aosta also remains at the top in the general classic and on the podium there are also Piacenza and Cagliari (which instead is first in Italy for what concerns the best quality of life for the elderly). Trento instead is the only Italian city in the top positions for Quality of life of children, young people and the elderly.
The second edition of the three indices, each calculated on 12 statistical parameters provided by certified sources (Istat, Miur, Centro studi Tagliacarne, Iqvia), was previewed at the Trento Economics Festival. The rankings, first published in June 2021 as a stage of the historic end-of-year survey, were updated by Il Sole 24 Ore to tell how the map of well-being has changed based on the "responses" of the territories to the specific needs of three generational targets.
Among the indicators, for this edition of the Quality of Life ranking, the percentage of school buildings with canteens among the 12 parameters that make up the ranking for children are 'making their debut'; e-commerce businesses among those for young people; the presence of specialist doctors, dependence with respect to the working-age population and anti-depressant drugs among those for the elderly.
Aosta, despite being first for children, is in sixth place for the elderly; and slips to 37th place, instead, for young people. Piacenza, in the lead for young people, falls to 42nd place for the elderly and to 75th place for children. Finally Cagliari, which conquers the primacy in the well-being of the elderly, loses positions in the other two indexes (21st place for children and 80th place for young people). The only province that conquers a place in all three top ten is Trento, followed by Parma which always remains among the first fifteen.
Quality of life, Emilia Romagna queen for young people
Emilia Romagna crowned queen for young people while the South shows a certain vitality. This is what emerges from the Sole 24 Ore ranking on Quality of Life. Ravenna, compared to the past, yields the scepter to Piacenza, first in Italy, and to Ferrara. Piacenza is second, behind Trieste, for positive migration balance and tenth for the average age of mothers at the birth of their first child, with Siracusa in the lead), but also obtains a sixth place for the availability of sports areas.
The general ranking shows difficulties for metropolitan areas: the first in the ranking is Bologna, 32nd. In the top ten there are nine areas of the North plus Caserta, which finishes sixth, also winning a second position, behind Rieti, for the lower weight of rents and a third place for youth entrepreneurship, where Vibo Valentia and Crotone are ahead of it.
Quality of life, Naples first for e-commerce companies
Signs of vitality for young people are coming from the South. Starting from Napoli with the success of e-commerce companies, (ranking) in the face, however, of a situation that is always critical in terms of emigration and unemployment. In this last respect, the last 31 provinces (with Siracusa at the bottom due to a rate of young unemployed of 42,4%, compared to 4,9% of the leader Bergamo) are all in the South.
In terms of young graduates, Ascoli Piceno stands out, while Prato has the highest share of municipal administrators under 40 and in Agrigento (followed by many southern cities) more marriages are celebrated, moreover on the rise everywhere after the restrictions imposed by Covid.
