San Giorgio, strict controls on waste, dog waste and surveillance of parks and green areas have begun.
San Giorgio a Cremano. Volunteer environmental inspectors. The surveillance service on waste dumping and dog waste has started throughout the municipal territory. Mayor Giorgio Zinno, in the presence of councilors Carlo Sarno and Simona D'Agostino, delivered the certificates and bibs, following the free, mandatory training course. The inspectors, who have been appointed as public officials, will carry out activities in a strictly environmental context on three specific directives:
– control and fight against the abandonment and illegal disposal of waste: that is, they will monitor compliance with the times and days of disposal, as well as the nature of the fraction dumped;
– combating the phenomenon of dog waste left on the street;
– monitoring compliance with regulations relating to public parks;
The volunteer environmental inspectors, who will work alongside the supervisory inspectors already employed by the agency, have the power to impose sanctions (by virtue of a specific mayoral decree), and will therefore be able to impose the sanctions envisaged for any violation of municipal regulations.
They will also implement information and prevention activities aimed at protecting the environment and the decorum of the city.
Finally, in addition to monitoring all forms of environmental pollution, they may also be employed in support activities for the Municipal Police during events and demonstrations, to control and monitor green areas and parks.
“In our territory there is a need for tight and constant controls on these phenomena linked to the lack of respect for the environment – says Mayor Zinno. The environmental inspectors are an additional resource to stem the conduct carried out by uncivilized citizens who cause damage to the community and the image of the city. Other assignments will be delivered soon, at the end of the training courses. In the meantime, I thank those who have decided to lend their commitment and their time to give this contribution to our community. It is a sign of how delicate and a priority this issue is for the quality of life of all of us. The environmental guards represent a deterrent for those who still persist in living without regard for the rules, and an additional control over the territory, but I will never tire of repeating that we citizens must be the first to implement civilized and respectful actions to protect the common good on a daily basis.”
