The Municipality of Milan has approved a resolution to combat the emergency Drought', which includes some measures such as the closing of fountains. The mayor, Giuseppe Sala, announced this in a post on Facebook.

"The drought emergency persists and measures must be taken. Yesterday the Lombardy Region decreed a state of water emergency until September 30 and we believe it is right to do our part by adopting an ordinance that invites citizens to reduce to a minimum the use of drinking water both for domestic use and for irrigating lawns, private gardens and cleaning terraces and courtyards".

Sala also announced “the following emergency measures: closure of all fountains except those where there is fauna and flora and lakes/ditches in city parks; suspension of spray irrigation of lawns and green areas, except drip irrigation which concerns new tree plantings which must be preserved”.

"The city fountains will remain open, given the temperatures that have been above 30 degrees for weeks now and the arrival of a new wave of color. To reduce energy consumption and therefore to lower the risk of blackouts, it is recommended to keep the temperature of offices, shops, homes at 26 degrees. All shops must keep their doors closed even in the presence of air blades and keep the temperature not below 26 degrees. Finally, I have requested the activation of private geothermal wells with discharge into bodies of water to maximize the power supply of each ditch, cable or drain," concluded the mayor.
