I Simple Minds announce the release of their new album. “Direction of the heart”, out the first single “Vision Thing”.
Simple Minds have announced the release of “Direction of The Heart”, their eighteenth studio album, which will be released on October 21st by BMG. The first single “Vision Thing” is also out. Currently on tour in Europe, the British band will return this autumn with their new work after the release of “Walk Between Worlds” in 2018. Through its nine tracks, “Direction of The Heart” is a celebration of life.
Most of the tracks on “Direction Of The Heart” originated in Sicily, where both Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill live. Unable to travel to the UK due to quarantine rules, the album was recorded at Chameleon Studios in Hamburg. Here they produced the album (later enlisting Andy Wright (Massive Attack, Echo & The Bunnymen) and Gavin Goldberg (Simply Red, KT Tunstall).
Band members bassist Ged Grimes (who co-wrote two of the new songs, “First You Jump” and “Solstice Kiss”), drummer Cherisse Osei and vocalist Sarah Brown joined them on a few tracks, recording their parts separately in London. Guests on the album, Sparks frontman Russell Mael (“Human Traffic”) and singer-songwriter and former Grimes musical partner Danny Wilson, Gary Clark (“Vision Thing,” “First You Jump” and “Natural”), recorded their parts in their respective home studios.
“How do you make a great ‘Electro-rock’ record, in the worst of times? Direction Of The Heart is the result of that challenge. Who would have thought we’d have so much fun making it?” commented Jim Kerr. Following their recently rescheduled 2020 tour, Simple Minds will be playing special shows in Europe this summer, these are the Italian dates: 12 July Teatro Antico di Taormina, 14 July Pescara, 15 July Pistoia Blues, 17 July Rome, 18 July Arena di Verona.
