An overtaking that is "only" three hundred thousand followers but which weighs heavily: with 142,5 million followers, Khaby Lame, 22, of Senegalese origins, in Italy since he was one year old (but does not have Italian citizenship), is the most followed TikToker in the world.
He just this morning detached Charli D'Amelio, an American dancer and creator with 142,2 million followers. In the midst of the pandemic emergency, in 2020, Khaby was fired from the factory where he was employed in Chivasso, in the Turin area: he was a numerically controlled machine operator. With the desire to make people smile (and pass the time) he landed on TikTok in March 2020. With videos of a few seconds, rather simple, he managed to conquer a much larger audience than he himself would have expected.
Among the videos that have left their mark, he himself remembers "the one of the rearview mirror or the handbrake. But also the one made with Alessandro del Piero with an apple as the protagonist. Not to forget the one with the banana". In 2021, Khaby Lame surpassed Addison Rae to become the second most followed influencer, while on August 9 of the same year he had exceeded 100 million followers.
“The inspiration for my videos comes from afar,” he said on that occasion, “it dates back to when I was a child watching “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” with Will Smith. I loved his comedy as I loved all his films. So, I decided to record some sketches on YouTube with a friend of mine and, even if the views were very few, I had a lot of fun making them.” A piece of advice for creators? “I think it’s enough that you really like what you do and love who you are and how you show yourself to others. And then the rest will come as a consequence.”
