US, thousands in the streets after the ruling on abortion. Demonstrations also in Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia.

Protests against the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on abortion are underway in dozens of US cities. Thousands are still gathering in Washington outside the Supreme Court building, and two marches are taking place in New York.

Pro-abortion demonstrations in Boston were also impressive. Sit-ins were also recorded in Austin, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago. No incidents were reported so far.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new law today aimed at strengthening abortion rights in the state, following today's Supreme Court decision, which abolished the constitutional right enshrined in Roe v. Wade, CNN reports.

“The truth is that in this country women are still treated like second-class citizens, and they don't have the same freedoms that men are guaranteed: none of this would ever happen if men were having children, and that disgusts me”, commented the governor.

The new law, approved yesterday by the California Legislature, will create a shield against potential civil suits by other states against those who request or perform an abortion.

The rule will not only affect California residents, but also anyone traveling there to receive reproductive health care.
