Tragedy narrowly avoided at the long-distance swimming race between Vietri and Cetara on the Amalfi Coast: 13 athletes suffering from mild hypothermia were rescued by the Coast Guard
Around 18.30 pm, thirteen athletes, of the approximately 350 involved in a long distance swimming race between Vietri sul Mare and Cetara, have reported difficulty swimming because they were suffering from mild hypothermia. The operations room of the Coast Guard of Salerno sent two patrol boats to the race course and alerted two ambulances to Manfredi pier of Salerno where the first ones were lent medical care.
Thanks also to the help of a dinghy from Civil protection 'Santa Maria delle Grazie' present in the area, the 13 people rescued were found to be in good health conditions and did not require transport to hospital.
