80-Year-Old Killed at Home, Daughter Arrested

She first attacked her 80-year-old mother, repeatedly hitting her on the head with a blunt object and, perhaps, also on the rest of her body with a cutting weapon.

She then climbed to the top floor of the public housing building on Via della Pace in San Benedetto del Tronto, throwing herself against the door of the apartment where an elderly neighbor lives, shouting invectives at him until some young tenants intervened and calmed her down.

She finally called the police herself: the officers who arrived on site found the old woman dead at home and her daughter in a confused state. Now Daniela Multarini, 48 years old, originally from Naples, but resident in San Benedetto del Tronto for years, is now hospitalized Our Lady of Help, where she is under guard because she was arrested for voluntary homicide, as she is suspected of having killed her elderly mother Maria Teresa Maurella at the height of an argument.

When the officers from the San Benedetto police station arrived at the apartment, they found Maurella's lifeless body, blood everywhere, and her daughter in the street, in a state of shock, also injured and with her clothes soaked in blood. She herself told the officers that she had killed her mother, without explaining the reasons. Many people in the area this morning heard the screams coming from the apartment where the mother and daughter lived.

It was not the first time that arguments had occurred between the two, even furious ones, but this time it ended in tragedy. A difficult cohabitation between the two who were getting by on the old woman's pension and with her daughter who had already shown problems of a psychological nature. However, there is no evidence that she was being treated and that the family unit was being followed by social services.

Agents from the Flying Squad and the scientific police of the Ascoli Piceno Police Headquarters also arrived on site, along with the chief prosecutor Umberto Monti who opened a case for voluntary homicide against the 48-year-old.

The coroner has carried out a cadaveric examination at the scene of the murder, but an autopsy has already been ordered to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the fatal attack and which shots caused the death of the 80-year-old, mother of another daughter who returned from Australia in recent days. The latter was questioned by the police as were some of the residents of the building.
