Twenty-five million euros. This is the amount that can be requested by the travelers company air, for the month of June only, due to the heavy air traffic disruptions. This is the estimate, collected by the claim company, ItalyRefund, which receives daily complaints by passengers, often left alone at the airport due to a cancelled or delayed flight.

A trend certainly growing in the last period and destined to increase during the summer. Just think that, in the month of June, the flight disruptions are tripled compared to the month of May. This is due to a increase consisting of the flights operated by airlines, which, also due to the pandemic, find themselves with a highly specialised reduced, compared to the offers. It was estimated that the air and tourism sector would gradually recover over the next four years. From the data that emerge, these studies do not correspond to reality, since tourism and, in this case, air passengers have returned to a normality that has gone beyond all expectations.

So here I disruptions planes may be around the corner, considering that July and August are the favorite months for Italians to leave. In most cases, in fact, the responsibility falls on the airlines and passengers can make up for it on European Regulation 261/2004, obtaining a financial compensation ranging from 250 a 600 euro. A sort of compensation that can be claimed if the flight delay exceeds three hours, or if the flight is cancelled with less than 14 days' notice.

"Daily - Says Felice D'Angelo, CEO of ItaliaRimborso – we are constantly contacted by thousands of passengers who receive a flight disruption to request our assistance. What we are analyzing in these weeks is something that is out of the ordinary. In fact, the companies often leave the traveler with only an email and the passenger, thus, is not prepared, not knowing his rights. The 25 million euros that can be claimed in compensation for travelers, for the month of June alone, are evidence of the serious flight disruptions of these days. What makes people angry is that only 5% of travelers are informed of their rights”.

It is important to point out that, in situations of strike, like the various ones that are characterising these days, the passenger cannot request financial compensation, but can obtain the reimbursement of the expenses incurred to reach the destination. These include transportation, any hotel stays and meals.

The desire to travel is certainly great, with the first reports from passengers constantly getting closer to those of the 2019, pre-pandemic year. The risk, however, is that demand is greater than supply, with companies proceeding with many sudden cancellations, protagonists to the detriment of those who want to spend a few days relaxing. It is therefore advisable to leave knowing your rights.

In this regard ItalyRefund, which assists passengers free of charge, has made a seven-day-a-week assistance service available. The startup has set up a form on the home page of its website www.italiarimborso.it, linked to the patented innovation that pre-establishes whether or not the passenger is entitled to the financial compensation of 250 euros.
