Alburni World Jazz Festival at its XXVIII edition: 10,11, 12 and XNUMX August in Serre in Cilento.
With a qualitatively rich live program dedicated to the valorization of the history, cultural, food and wine and landscape traditions of the upper Cilento, one of the longest-running festivals in Campania returns.
The Alburni World Jazz Festival 2022 offers a trio of concerts featuring Cameroonian Richard Bona; the representative of Italian world music Eugenio Bennato with Taranta Power and the French trio composed of drummer Andrè Ciccarelli, guitarist Sylvain Luc and double bass player Thomas Bramerie.
From this year the artistic direction has been entrusted to the jazz singer and pianist Walter Ricci.
In the medieval village of Serre, in the province of Salerno, located at the gates of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, at the foot of the Alburni Mountains; the twenty-eighth edition of the Alburni World Jazz Festival 10 will take place on 11-12-2022 August.
Under the artistic direction of Neapolitan jazz singer and pianist Walter Ricci – supported by the organizing company Mr Few – the event, one of the longest-running in Campania, changes its name to World Jazz Festival by virtue of a new and restructured musical concept that aims to open up to contamination and sharing of genres.
All scheduled concerts are free to enter and will take place from 21:30 pm at Piazza Ennio D'Aniello.
“Music builds bridges that connect people from other cultures, who speak other languages and who profess different religions. – declares the artistic director Walter Ricci. Music is capable of building cultural bridges, breaking down walls of indifference and also taking on a social function by presenting itself as an extraordinary instrument of cultural integration. Music is a universal language and is understandable to everyone, even those who have never practiced it and have only limited themselves to listening to it. This is precisely the key to the new festival: offering listeners the potential of a refined and artistic instrument that at the same time has a social function.”
“My career – concludes Ricci – began at the tender age of ten when my father, an arranger and music producer, gave me the passion and determination to find my way in this world. And today, being invited to direct such an important event makes me feel honored and proud because I can put his teachings into practice”.
“For our community the festival is very important and anticipated. Despite its longevity we think it is an event to be preserved and at the same time renewed year after year.” The Mayor of Serre Antonio Opramolla declares. "I have only been mayor since June and therefore I have had little time to plan and design this edition but with the contribution of the new artistic director I am convinced that it will be a success. Walter Ricci was chosen as a serious professional and an artist of international caliber and with him this administration wants to take a long innovative path."
The festival will be inaugurated by “the African Sting” namely Richard Bona; singer, bassist and composer from Cameroon – based first in Paris and then in New York – who, loaded with his contaminated culture, will perform on August 10th.
Bona has shared the stage with the greatest contemporary jazz artists: Manu Dibango, Salif Keïta, Jacques Higelin, Didier Lockwood, Joe Zawinul, Larry Coryell, Michael and Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, George Benson, Branford Marsalis, Chaka Khan, Bobby McFerrin, and Steve Gadd. The following day, August 11, it will be the turn of Eugenio Bennato, one of the greatest exponents of Italian folk and ethnic music. Accompanied by his band Taranta Power, he will propose a mix of ballads and singer-songwriter songs from the tradition of Southern Italy and unreleased songs from his long folk repertoire that for decades has spread messages of integration between different peoples and cultures.
Closing the three days will be two great French jazz musicians: Andrè Ceccarelli, a world-class musician, a classy performer with incredible sensitivity and control over the instrument, who with his refined drumming and propulsive swing is an authentic reference for anyone who plays the drums. With him on stage will be the guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and arranger Sylvain Luc, considered one of the great names in European jazz, and the double bass player Thomas Bramerie.
