Amalfi, €300 for the redevelopment of the Tovere water reservoir. This public project will ensure increased water reserves.

The public work, which will be fully operational in the next few months, will guarantee greater water reserves and above all a reduction in energy costs.

The Municipality of Amalfi is also facing the water emergency by strengthening the supply system and reducing waste along one of the peripheral axes. It is that of Tovere, one of the upper hamlets of the municipal territory, whose water tank, thanks to the Municipal Administration led by Mayor Daniele Milano, is affected by a major restructuring and refunctionalization intervention for a total amount of about 300 thousand euros.

In addition to a significant saving of water resources, it will guarantee advantages in terms of reduction of energy costs and elimination of overflow volumes. With its 150.000 liters of capacity, the new tank will be able to cope with hourly peaks and ensure a useful reserve in case of failures of the power system.

“The commissioning of this important public work, which will take place in the coming months, has a strategic value as it will guarantee with greater continuity, even in an emergency, the water service to the citizens who live in that area. In fact, the capacity of the pre-existing plant – explains Mayor Daniele Milano – it is limited to a modest stainless steel container, with a capacity of a few thousand litres and, in case of emergency, by the electromechanical lifting present in the Vettica tank”.

The very modest dimensions of the pre-existing container are not able to ensure the compensation volumes, to be used to cope with the hourly flow peaks, and the reserve volumes, to be used in the event of interruptions in the supply flows. In this situation, frequent phenomena of water shortage and consequent inconvenience to users have been recorded over the years. To cope with these inconveniences, the water service manager has been forced to organize frequent maneuvers and, above all, to use, well beyond the bare minimum, the Vettica lifting system, with obvious increased energy consumption and phenomena of overflow of the lifted flows.

“With this intervention we aim to definitively resolve the phenomena of water shortage and the consequent inconvenience to citizens – underlines the deputy mayor Matteo Bottone – This is a further step forward in the policy of rationalisation of water resources along the entire network which has already been affected for some time by monitoring and interventions necessary to limit losses”.

In the meantime, to further improve the function of the reservoir, Ausino, the company that manages the water network in the municipal area, will create a remote control and command system to monitor the regular operation of the reservoir and the water schemes connected to it and to intervene promptly in the event of anomalies.
