“70.000 hearts beating as one. 70.000 faces including those of lifelong friends. These are the streets where it all began. These are the people who believed in us from the beginning. Rome is our home and yesterday we felt it more than ever. Thank you Rome”. Maneskin used social media to thank the over 70 fans who gathered last night at the Circo Massimo for a truly unique concert.

And among those present last night was also Angelina Jolie with her 16-year-old daughter Shiloh as shown by the photos and videos published on her social profiles. The American actress is in Rome to direct the film based on Alessandro Baricco's “Without Blood”.

It was the great return to Rome for Maneskin since they exploded on the international stage of Eurovision 2021, and in fact their performance at the Circo Massimo on Saturday 9 July opened with “Zitti e buoni”, the song that made them triumph in Sanremo and in Europe. Rome Caput Mundi: they had come from all over Italy, from Udine to Sicily, more than seventy thousand, and many from abroad too (with a “Translate please!” sign waved in front of the stage when Damiano David spoke).

Also present are Coachella, Rock in Rio, Lollapalooza. A two-hour show, created in collaboration with Rock in Roma, to retrace their fairy tale in music. The start could only be given by the overwhelming energy, between tongues of flame on the stage, of Zitti and Buoni, between the song with which, after Sanremo, they took over the entire world.

Then it was the turn of In nome del padre and Mammamia, to get to Chosen, the band's first successful single of 2017, presented during X-Factor and Womanizer, the tribute to Britney Spears. Intense and thrilling, as always, the moment in which Damiano sings Coraline, dedicated to his girlfriend Giorgia Soleri.

Damiano, Victoria, Ethan and Thomas (listening to them, mixed in with the audience, were also parents, brothers, sisters and a plethora of friends) did not spare themselves as they ran up and down the main stage along the long catwalk that took them to the smaller stage among their fans.

There is room for the latest single Supermodel, for the cover Amandoti (which saw them sing at the festival with Manuel Agnelli, “Noi ti pensare sempre”), for I wanna be your slave and for the cover included in the film Elvis If I can dream. And then, true to themselves, from the Circus Maximus – to the notes of Gasoline – that liberating cry resounded again, which had already gone around the world at Coachella: “Let's keep saying it even if it bothers someone: Fuck Putin, fuck war, fuck dictators. And to those who don't agree: Fuck”.

It's the only break from the music that the four take, because they immediately start hitting hard again on drums, bass, guitar. The dust now envelops the Circus Maximus like a heavy cloud, but they dance and sing. Except halfway through the concert, when Damiano accompanied by Thomas on guitar, explains that it's time for a song that is "unfinished, without a title, just a demo" (and translates it into English for the benefit of the foreign guys under the stage who ask him from the signs "translate!").

Before the end of the live, with Damiano now bare-chested like Ethna and Victoria in a bra, a few dozen fans are invited to go on stage during Lividi sui gomiti. The encore closes with Le parole lontane and I wanna be your slave. Also applauding Maneskin were Edoardo Leo, Riccardo Scamarcio, Gabriele Muccino, Anna Ferzetti, Anna Foglietta and the Roma footballers Marash Kumbulla and Edoardo Bove.

After Rome, and after the summer tour that will take them to the most prestigious festivals in the world, their first world tour will start in the fall: the Loud Kids Tour (over 60 dates with 500 thousand tickets already sold) that will take them to North America and Europe, as well as to the most famous Italian arenas.
