Benevento. The Anti-Counterfeiting and Product Security Group of the Guardia di Finanza Corps of Benevento, reported a person who owns a sole proprietorship specializing in the sale of optical goods.
In particular, military personnel from the Benevento Group entered the premises of two commercial establishments operating in the optical sector, located in two different municipalities in the Telesina Valley, where they found, held for sale, glasses and accessories of the well-known brand "RayBan", passed off as originals.
From the check carried out, with the help of contextual expert checks carried out with the specialists of the brand's distribution house, it emerged that the glasses on sale were counterfeit, as the brands reported therein were different from the originals, the mouldings and lenses were produced with non-CE classified materials, and there were differences in the stampings, graphics on the packaging, cases, temples, bags and lens cleaning cloths.
The outcome of the investigations allowed us to ascertain that the products were in any case of good workmanship with details very similar to the original ones, such as to generate ambiguity regarding the origin, provenance and quality, misleading the final consumer, also considering the fact that the products were put on sale in a specialized shop.
The activities concluded with the seizure pursuant to art. 354 of the Criminal Code in the two points of sale of packaging, glasses, cases and accessories for a total of 108 pieces for violation of art. 474 of the Criminal Code and with the referral of the responsible person to the judicial authority.
Further investigations are underway aimed at identifying the illicit origin of the said goods.
The operation conducted demonstrates the vigilant and constant attention of the Guardia di Finanza in the fight against trademark counterfeiting which, in addition to causing serious economic damage to industries and the treasury, in this case also creates harm to the final consumer, who buys designer products, in the belief of their authenticity.
