Caivano. Forest Carabinieri find hazardous waste near crops. Goldfinches trapped in sewage are freed. They are alive by a miracle.
Environmental safety is the focus of the wide-ranging service implemented in Caivano by the Carabinieri Forestali of the Naples station. The sole director of a company in Casolla that deals with the production of outdoor awnings was reported at large for environmental disaster, management of hazardous waste and throwing of hazardous things.
The Forestry Police found that the entrepreneur had illegally disposed of hazardous liquid waste.
Paints, solvents and grease directly in the nearby countryside, close to the crops. Waste dumped in the vegetable gardens, an image so strong that it made the forestry military hypothesize an irreversible alteration of the balance of the eco-system.
During the inspection, however, the emblematic scene: three goldfinches - a protected species among other things - trapped in those liquids illegally poured among the vegetables. The small creatures had probably landed on the vegetables to feed themselves when then, at the moment of taking flight, those solvents "chained" them to the ground.
It would have been only a matter of time and for those little birds there would have been no escape. The carabinieri freed them, cleaned them and after giving them the necessary care they let them fly. It is necessary to specify that for the goldfinches it is not a crime but it is a fact that the intervention of the Forestry it was providential.
Returning to the operation, the Carabinieri found and seized 30 drums containing hazardous waste in an area of about 100 square meters. 5 of these were empty, their contents spilled onto the crops.
The entire forecourt in front of the company was also seized, with waste inside for a total of about 300 cubic meters. The entrepreneur also received fines of just over 4 thousand euros.
