There was no connection with organized crime between the former mayor of Pagani and Alberico Gambino, former regional councilor of Campania. This was established by the court of Nocera Inferiore who acquitted him of the extortion charge because the fact does not exist in the context of the trial called 'Criniera'.
The prosecutor of the Salerno DDA had asked for his acquittal. "It was a very long ordeal, these are events that date back to 2009/2010", underlines one of Gambino's two lawyers, Giovanni Annunziata, in a press conference defining as "sad" the affair that lasted eleven years during which, "with my colleague Alessandro Diddi, we assisted the Honorable Gambino with great difficulty but successfully to bring out the truth".
“The truth,” the lawyer points out, “is that Alberico Gambino has absolutely nothing to do with criminal circles, he has nothing to do with those protests. Those protests were all demolished at the trial.
This second sentence (the first was related to the so-called 'Linea d'ombra' trial in which Gambino was already acquitted, ed.) concerns a second charge, with a request for precautionary custody in prison that was rejected by the investigating judge, but was accepted by the Review Court according to which Gambino again had to be sent to prison for association crimes and then the Court of Cassation annulled it without referral”.
“There remained, from the Supreme Court ruling – he continues – a residual dispute that was then addressed in the trial and which led to the acquittal because the fact did not exist”. “We can firmly say that Alberico Gambino is a good person, he never wanted contact with organized crime, indeed he fought it”.
During the meeting with the press, the judicial affair was retraced for which "the life of a politician, substantially, was severely damaged", says Annunziata. For his part, Gambino emphasizes that he can now "shout, after eleven years, to the whole world my innocence". "After eleven years of ordeal - he concludes - always keeping my guardian angel lawyers close by, there were those who fortunately never believed in these things and we are obviously talking about the people".
