Capua. Less than two weeks after the election as mayor of Capua, Adolfo Villani is facing the first emergency of his administration: this morning the new mayor signed the ordinance to close the Roman Bridge on the Volturno River, the only structure that connects the northern part to the southern part of the city after the seizure of the Ponte Nuovo by the judiciary (Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere), which occurred three years ago.

“The city is split in two, this is a real emergency – says Villani on Facebook – the State must help us immediately and Capua must remain united. It will be the most serious crisis since the Second World War”. Villani then explains the genesis of his decision.

“On July 8th – he says – an investigation was carried out on the state of maintenance of the Roman Bridge, currently the only connection between the northern and southern parts of the town of Capua, by the head of the Technical sector Francesco Greco, assisted by the structural designers of the New Bridge, engineers Michele Contaldo and Saturnino Augusto Di Benedetto, following which widespread critical issues emerged in the structural organism of the Roman Bridge”.

Villani highlights the need "to adopt urgent measures that include, as a precaution and pending more in-depth investigations, the complete closure of the infrastructure and the adoption of extraordinary interventions on the road system, in order to guarantee the connection between the northern and southern parts of the town".

The mayoral ordinance signed by Villani provides for "the prohibition of transit for all vehicles and for all pedestrians on the Roman Bridge over the Volturno, from the Towers of Federico to the intersection with via Riviera Volturno, through the positioning of concrete New Jersey barriers". Yesterday during a meeting at the Prefecture on the situation of the Bridge, the new mayor of Capua had also requested the Inter of the Military Engineers, which today was sent to Capua for further checks on the structure.
