The episode, reported by vivicentre, it happened in 2016, the woman went to her granddaughter's school, the first educational district "Basilio Cecchi", after learning that a 62-year-old teacher had scolded her granddaughter in the classroom the day before. "Leave my niece alone, I'll kill you": these are the words pronounced by the 61-year-old towards the teacher AC. The teacher was threatened with death and hit with punches, slaps and kicks in the stomach.

The teacher was taken to the San Leonardo hospital in Castellammare di Stabia, with a prognosis of more than a month for the injuries sustained in the barbaric attack.

THE SENTENCE OF CONVICTION

After 6 years, the sentence has finally arrived that condemns the violent grandmother to six months of imprisonment (suspended sentence). An important signal that violence, especially in schools, cannot be tolerated.

"When situations arise that highlight a possible breakdown in the school-family educational pact, there is the risk that the teacher may be diminished in his role as an educator.”. These are the words of Minister Bussetti during Question Time at the Chamber in April 2019: “Pstripped of this role, teachers become the object of violent demonstrations, sometimes exaggerated by inexplicable and useless abuses. And together with teachers, the whole school suffers from the general climate of cultural impoverishment".

However, despite the Minister's words, episodes of violence by family members of students of all grades of school towards teachers are still numerous today.

TEACHERS ARE PUBLIC OFFICIALS

It must be said that precisely following these serious episodes of violence the State has implemented a crackdown to combat the phenomenon: teachers are already considered equal to public officials.

The norm – after a  ad hoc law request – he says that “whoever, in a public place or one open to the public and in the presence of several people, offends the honour and prestige of a public official while performing an official act and because of or in the exercise of his functions is punished with imprisonment from six months to three years. The penalty is increased if the offence consists in the attribution of a specific fact".

Violent acts against teachers can consist not only of insults, beatings, injuries and private violence, but the crime also occurs in cases of stalking, threats and defamation.
