Political elections, symbols and lists presented in August: the dates

Political elections, the countdown begins for the presentation of symbols and lists for the vote on September 25th.

The lists of candidates must be presented within a month from today and the symbols must be deposited by mid-August. With the dissolution of the Chambers decreed by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the timing for the elections has officially begun, which will be held on September 25 as decided by the Council of Ministers on the basis of Article 61 of the Constitution: "the elections of the new Chambers take place within seventy days from the end of the previous ones".

Before voting, however, there are a series of obligations and deadlines to be respected by both institutions and parties.

The main dates:

July 27: this is the deadline by which the Ministry of the Interior must send the lists of voters abroad to the Farnesina, which are constantly updated. The law establishes that they must be sent within the sixtieth day before the elections.

12-13 and 14 August: This is the deadline by which parties must deposit their electoral symbols and emblems at the Ministry of the Interior.

August 21 and 22: These are the days reserved for the presentation of the lists, the 35th and 34th before the vote. The lists of candidates are presented in the central electoral offices established at the Courts of Appeal.

August 26: this is the official start date of 'election propaganda', the month of electoral campaigning before the vote, with the posting of electoral posters.

September 25: It's Election Day

October 15: this is the date by which the first session of the new Parliament must be held. This is also established by Article 61 of the Constitution, according to which "the first meeting" of the Chambers "takes place no later than the twentieth day after the elections". Until the new chambers are reunited, the article continues, "the powers of the previous ones are extended".
