Federalberghi Isola di Capri strongly urges the two municipal administrations to intervene to regulate the traffic of two-wheeled electric vehicles which, in addition to representing a new mobility system, also represent a further danger for pedestrians.
This was announced by President Sergio Gargiulo, who brought the problem to the attention of the mayors of Capri and Anacapri, Marino Lembo and Alessandro Scoppa, following the numerous reports collected from tourists and citizens on the indiscipline that owners of electric vehicles show during circulation.
“Alternative mobility is becoming a serious problem for the island of Capri, in the territory of both municipalities, especially in pedestrian areas where walking is now dangerous – says Gargiulo – Just as has been done for electric trolleys for transporting goods, we need to adopt rules and carry out checks to safeguard people's safety”.

There are many tourists who report having been grazed or even hit by one of these vehicles that was travelling at high speed among people, especially in pedestrian areas. Often these are people of a certain age who do not have such quick reflexes to avoid danger.
"The impression," adds Gargiulo, "is that those who use these vehicles believe they're riding a toy, unaware that they're actually riding a vehicle, and that they're dangerous. Perhaps they forget that this very vehicle is subject to the rules of the highway code, starting with the use of a helmet. Capri isn't a free territory; the same rules apply here as on the mainland, and if possible, they should be made more stringent, considering the nature of the area."
Federalberghi Isola di Capri therefore launches an appeal to the mayors of Capri and Anacapri to arrange for tighter control over the circulation of electric bicycles and scooters before any serious accidents can occur. "I invite the mayors to consider the possibility of preparing appropriate signs at the beginning of pedestrian areas with a ban on transit for these vehicles or with a limitation of transit to the vehicle pushed by hand" suggests the president of Federalberghi Isola di Capri, Sergio Gargiulo
