Frangenti – Cetara Arts Festival, the theater and music festival directed by Vincenzo Albano, will take place from July 23rd to 30th and from August 25th to September 3rd in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, in the seaside village of Cetara.
Now in its sixth edition, Frangenti is theatre but also authorial music.
It is also aimed at the very young with the aim of enhancing the creative capacity of the word through the exploration of different artistic expressions ranging from dramatic language to music.
The three sections of this edition, #KIDS, #Stories and #Live will take place in different suggestive places of the village: Piazza San Francesco, Piazzetta Grotta, Church of San Pietro and the Agorà dei Poeti e degli Artisti at Piazzetta al Casale and the panoramic Torre Vicereale which will host some shows of the #stories section, a series of events dedicated to theater, reading, while in the enchanting location of the Porto Marittimo some of the most interesting voices of the Italian music scene will resonate.
The first two unmissable events of Frangenti – Cetara Arts Festival are the exclusive regional concerts of two of the most renowned musicians and singer-songwriters of the contemporary singer-songwriter scene: Giorgio Poi on July 23 and Cristina Donà on July 30, both on stage in the port area suspended between sea and land.
Completing the program #Live Folcast (August 25th at 22 pm at Piazzetta Grotta ticket 10 euros at the box office) young and talented Roman singer-songwriter who rose to prominence at the Sanremo Festival was a guest of the Wired Next Fest 2021 in Milan and among the protagonists of the Concerto del Primo Maggio in Rome. A minimal concert, guitar and loop, through the most intimate and incisive moments of their repertoire will be on stage thanks to the singer-songwriters Zibba and Erica Mou (August 27th at 22 pm Piazzetta Grotta ticket 15 euros at the box office).
On September 1st, the promising Cecilia will take the stage (22 pm Piazzetta Grotta ticket €10 at the box office) who grew up with soul and the great Italian classics, will perform accompanied by piano and guitar between experimentation and musical research. Closing the #Live section will be the Italian singer-songwriter par excellence: Riccardo Sinigallia. On September 3rd (22 pm Piazzetta Grotta ticket €15 at the box office) the refined Roman producer returns on tour for some dates around Italy and has chosen Cetara for its charm bringing the show “Concerto a cuor leggero” on stage.

As for the eagerly awaited #KIDS section, the program includes: July 23 (20:30 pm Piazza S. Francesco) the show “Pocket Circus – The circus in the suitcase”. A circus to be invented, the objects of a suitcase and a good dose of imagination will guide the audience towards the creative pleasure of a poetic and fun game. July 25 (20:30 pm Church of S. Pietro Apostolo) on stage “The stories of Fernando, story of a fisherman baker” a show resulting from research on the possible interactions between puppet theater, actor theater and street theater, tries to tell an era through a storyteller, from the years before the great conflict to the present day.
The program for kids continues on July 27 (Piazzetta Grotta at 20:30 pm) with “Il Fiore Azzurro” a journey through the history of a people, the gypsy one, through the acceptance of diversity, overcoming life’s adversities, friendship and the ability to imagine that one’s destiny is not written, but is constantly changing. On July 29 (at 19:30 pm Piazza S. Francesco) “Che Viaggio!” will be on stage, the tragicomic story of a man called Odisseo narrated with puppets animated on sight.
Followed by a practical and manual workshop. The KIDS section will resume on August 25 (20:30 pm Church of S. Pietro Apostolo) with “The tales of wisdom” a show of masks and simple stage elements that give life to the most famous tales of talking animals that have crossed the centuries and civilizations since ancient times and that we still continue to love today since early childhood.
On August 27 (20:30 pm Piazza S. Francesco) “Storie di pezza” is a theatrical show staged through puppet theatre. Puppets, marionettes, muppets and Chinese shadows tell eight stories that belong to different traditions, distant but parallel universes. On August 30 (20:30 pm Piazzetta al Casale free participation) “Mare Monstrum” a workshop created using packaging that we increasingly find on the shores of beaches: plastic, paper, aluminum etc.
So much imagination to transform “horrid” waste into superb assembled Monsters. The following day (August 31st at 20:30 pm Church of S. Pietro Apostolo) “Appeso a un filo” a puppet show full of poetry and fun, perfect for all ages: “they enchant children and make adults dream”.
On September 1st, “Pulcinella che passione” (20:30 pm Piazza S. Francesco) will be on stage, a show with a strong impact that features a giant image of the Pulcinella mask that frames the stage of the theater on which the cloth and foam rubber characters move. The KIDS section will end on September 2nd and 3rd: the penultimate event is with “Even dogs have a difficult adolescence” (national premiere at 20:30 pm Sala Benincasa) that investigates the world of adolescence and their relationship with family, school and classmates.
To find access to their inner world, the company uses a simile with the animal world. While the last one on stage is “Where has Prince Charming gone?” (Piazza S. Francesco at 20:30 pm) They all wait for their Prince Charming and, as in all respectable fairy tales, sooner or later the Prince Charming arrives, but there is only one and there are too many princesses waiting for him.
All performances are free until all seats are taken and are suitable for audiences of all ages, starting from 3 years old.
Finally, the #Stories section completes the rich program: it starts on July 26 (21:00 pm Torre Vicereale entrance 10 euros - show and tasting reservations recommended) with “The Old Man and the Sea” by E. Hemingway with Paolo Cresta and Carlo Lomanto.
On July 28 (21:00 pm Torre Vicereale entrance 10 euros show and tasting reservations recommended) “Omu a mari”, is part, together with the show Epica fera, of the Horcynus diptych, and is a project that was born and developed starting from the rewriting of some parts of the novel by Stefano D'Arrigo, Horcynus Orca. The protagonists are the fishermen and seamen of the Strait of Messina.
A community of men and women told in their complex and plural world of meanings and belongings. After a break, the program resumes on August 26 with “La vita salva” (21:00 pm Torre Vicereale entrance 10 euros show and tasting reservations recommended) a hymn to the wonderful and surprising complexity of life with the intersection of multiple stories, multiple lives, multiple characters. Finally, on August 28 (21:00 pm Piazzetta al Casale free entrance until seats are taken) “Un giorno bianco” will be performed, a reading, with music and words, from the book “Ho costruzione una casa da giardiniere” by G. Clément.
