A 21-year-old Moroccan prisoner escaped from the Airola juvenile prison.
He gives the news Sabatino De Rosa, vice regional coordinator of the Campania region for the juvenile sector of the Sappe penitentiary police union. The prisoner had obtained a permesso prize but, when it expired, he did not return to prison.
“A very serious fact – De Rosa declares – which can only have serious repercussions for him if he does not turn himself in as soon as possible. The question arises: are award permits granted after adequate prior assessment of the subject by those in charge of this task?
Is the dangerousness of the subject, the membership, the contacts that the same can or could have with criminal families really evaluated? It is necessary to make a decisive change of direction in the granting of reward permits to certain detained subjects".
Donato Capece, secretary general of Sappe, underlines that “we must arrive at a reorganization of the Penitentiary Police Corps that is more functional to the country's security system, considering that our Police Corps is the expression of a specialization in the panorama of the security sector and the justice system of the country.
Instead, we need to increase the use of Penitentiary Police personnel in the external penal area. In our opinion, it is essential to increase the police presence in the territory, including in the Offices for External Penal Enforcement, an increase that is absolutely essential to take charge of the controls on the execution of alternative measures to detention, admissions to work outside, house arrest, reward permits, transport of prisoners and their guarding in hospital”.
