Too many accidents. The citizens who live along the state road 335 (former state road 265), an important and busy artery of the Caserta among the most dangerous – it is estimated to be the third of province by number of fatal accidents – which crosses the territory of the municipality of Maddaloni joining with the Benevento area.
The critical issues mainly concern the large crossroads – the competence is divided between Anas e common di Maddaloni – where they intersect 335, which then continues towards the Isclero Valley Bottom and Sannio, and the 'Appia which continues towards Santa Maria a Vico; an area made up of a tangle of roads and little streets – called “giardinetti” – where accidents often happen, constantly travelled by commuters and trucks, even those working on the nearby construction site ofHigh Speed Naples-Bari or that go to the various industrial areas of the area, between Acerra e Maddaloni - Marcianise, and for which urgent interventions have already been requested.
It looks like the new ones will be installed soon Speed Cameras, but this solution is not enough for the citizens, whose exasperation has been expressed for some time by the unions, who have repeatedly asked for structural interventions. In a letter sent to prefecture e Province of Caserta, Anas, Municipalities of Maddaloni e Valle di Maddaloni Caserta secretaries of transport unions Filt-Cgil (Angel Lustro), Fit-Cisl (Pasquale Federico) and Uil Transport (Gianfranco Spanò), they explain that they have “had several meetings with the Mayors and also in the Prefecture and with the relevant Authorities and much has already been done by Anas for the roads under its jurisdiction. News from last week about the installation of Speed Cameras, which although they are excellent deterrents, cannot be considered the adequate and final solution.
“We are aware of a project presented by the SS335 Safety Committee that includes roundabouts along the entire artery and even the possibility of widening it, which would allow for the creation of a double uphill lane, since the artery is used by heavy vehicles, in addition to those of the Naples Bari works, headed towards Benevento with the use of the Valle Fondo Isclero and also those headed towards Molise. As well as a project that should involve the redevelopment of the so-called 'little gardens', which would allow vehicles to graft onto this artery quickly and safely. It is useless to reiterate the exasperation of residents that risks resulting in actions of social protest. We remain confident in the sensitivity of the Prefect, who has already intervened on this matter on several occasions, for a substantive convocation”.
