Singer Irene Fargo died last night in Brescia at the age of 59. The news was announced, as reported by some local newspapers, by singer and record producer Giovanna Nocetti with a post on social media.
Flavia Pozzaglio, stage name Ireene Fargo, was born in Palazzolo sull'Oglio on November 1, 1962. After having been part of a polyphonic choir, her debut as a soloist saw her present the song “Fretta di te” on the stage of the Castrocaro Festival in 1987 under her real name.
It is with the subsequent meeting with Enzo Miceli to assume the stage name that begins to define the character that will allow her to become known at a national level. After a return in 1988 to the Castrocaro Festival and the debut 45 Dialoghi/Meccanismi, in 1990 the debut album preceded by the summer single Le Ragazze Al Mare. In 1991 she participated in the Sanremo Festival and ranked second in the new proposals category with the song La donna di Ibsen, whose text is inspired by a theatrical text by the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen entitled La donna del mare.
The 45 rpm, which served as a lead to the album recorded the previous year and appropriately reissued with the addition of another unreleased song, Ti do una canzone, a duet with Grazia Di Michele, enjoyed unusual success for a participant in the new proposals competition who had not won, almost reaching the Top Ten.
In 1992 she was again at Sanremo among the new proposals, again in second place, with the song Come una Turandot. This time the homage was to the work of Giacomo Puccini. The second album, published at the end of the festival, was entitled La voce magica della luna, and obtained a fair commercial success. In the same year Irene obtained a third place at the Cantagiro.
In 1993 she was eliminated at the last selection from the list of Big of the Sanremo Festival, where she had applied with the song Non sei così, later included in the third album Labirinti del cuore, published at the end of that year. With this album Irene gave a new direction to her career: abandoning her first producer Enzo Miceli (author with Gaetano Lorefice of almost all the songs recorded up to that point), she transformed herself into a pure interpreter, and sang songs by Mariella Nava, Roby Facchinetti, Kaballà, Daniele Fossati.
The song Ma quando sarà is performed live during the first edition of the Festival Italiano event broadcast on Canale 5. After a television experience in the cast of Domenica in…, Irene approaches Neapolitan song by publishing an album entitled 'O core e Napule. She takes part in some singing events such as Viva Napoli and Ma l'amore sì! which wins with the song Io che non vivo (senza te) by Pino Donaggio.
Between 1997 and 1999 Irene released three more albums, often being invited as a guest on Paolo Limiti's programs. Since 2002 she has been working as a musical theater actress. Her last CD was released in 2005, a series of covers entitled Insieme containing some unreleased songs, including the main theme from the film Nel mio amore, which saw the directorial debut of writer Susanna Tamaro. The singer plays the leading role in some musicals.
On December 7, 2012, she returns to the radio with the single Acrobati from her new album Crescendo, after having achieved great success abroad. The song, composed by Konrad Pulè and Alessandro Hellmann, is the third of an album born from the collaboration with great authors. The album also includes a tribute to her great friend Lucio Dalla, who passed away, through a moving interpretation in Spanish of the song Caruso. On December 15, 2012, she was awarded the “One Media Awards” prize for her 25-year career.
