Irpinia Express, the historic train sets off again towards the most beautiful villages in Campania

Irpinia Express returns with excursions to discover the most beautiful places in Irpinia. We start on July 10th from the village of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, then follow Nusco, Castelvetere sul Calore and Montella

The historic trains of the Avellino-Rocchetta “Irpinia Express” route are back to give passengers a dive into Irpinia tradition between art, food and wine, and routes immersed in nature. A project born from the collaboration between the Campania Region and the FS Foundation, and with the constant work of the Inlocomotivi APS Association, which aims to enhance tourism in Irpinia through a form of soft mobility.

Discover the hidden beauties of the historical and cultural heritage that exists outside the large overcrowded historic centers, landscapes that can only be dreamed of living in the cities. It is a type of tourism for those who love to go beyond the simple guide, for those who are curious to know much more about the places they want to visit. The Irpinia Express routes resume, from July until late autumn, tickets are available from July 9: on the FS website (www.fondazionefs.it), in all train stations and at travel agencies.

The debut is on July 10th and we travel to Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, a village of great importance in which you can still see the medieval layout, passed through the centuries, deeply marked also by the earthquake in 1980 which undoubtedly characterizes its building stratigraphy. The departure is at 09.00 from the Avellino station, the arrival at 11.40 at the Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi station. Afterwards, welcome and visit to the Goleto Abbey, transfer to the village and free lunch (reservation recommended) at the restaurants: La Locanda di Enza (tel. 0827-23888) or Pueta Restaurant (tel. 0827-24482).

At 15.15 pm the gathering in Piazza De Sanctis, with a walk through the alleys of the village of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, with a stop in the small square at the headquarters of the Pro Loco with a toast and the opening of the stands with typical products.
Finally, visit the cathedral and the crypt, then the belvedere, and finally the Castle.
17.00 pm – Departure for Avellino with arrival expected at 20.00 pm

On July 16th we will then head to Nusco, “the balcony of Irpinia” with the format
“che ci salta in menta” an event organized by the Pro Loco of Nusco to discover mint, the native plant of the Nusco trails, with a unique scent.

A double stop is instead scheduled for July 24, where the Irpinia Express will first take you to Castelvetere sul Calore, a small village bathed by the Calore river and then to Montemarano, a place rich in history and folklore with its famous carnival and the Montemaranese tarantella. It will be an opportunity to taste the typical “maccaronara”.

On July 31st we leave for Montella, a village with a wonderful landscape located in the Monti Picentini Regional Park. We will visit the monumental complexes "del monte" and San Francesco a Folloni.
