Little Domenico's mother, Ambra Cucina, had publicly told the whole story. Little Domenico's health problems began on June 29, when he felt ill due to nausea and diarrhea.
The next day his mother took him to the emergency room of a hospital in Catania, but the doctors thought it was an intestinal virus and so he was sent home. However, the child was still in pain and the parents decided to take him back to the hospital, but once again they had the same answers.
At this point the family decided to turn to another facility, San Marco in Catania. Here the child was placed under observation and, finding altered values, it was decided to apply a probe. Despite the pain, the child continued to enjoy good health.
Subsequently, however, his health conditions worsened to such an extent that he was transferred to the Policlinico in Catania; but after some clinical tests, it was decided to transfer him to Messina. And it was in Messina that the doctors confirmed an infection from Enterococcus.
Unfortunately, the child then had a cardiac arrest and was transferred to the hospital in Taormina. Here, brain damage was also found. At this point, little Domenico's conditions were very serious and remained so until his death.

The mother Ambra stayed with the little one until the end. The terrible story shocked everyone and quickly went viral on the web. Even the mayor of Lampedusa, the mother's hometown, expressed the city's closeness to the family: “We will provide for any needs of the parents.”
