Mother dies at 37, son gets a book for every birthday until he grows up.

She died at 37 from cancer and leaves her son, not even 3 years old, a book to read for each of his birthdays until he grows up and becomes an adult. This is what an elementary school teacher from Florence, Laura Lonzi, reported today in the city news by La Repubblica. In a few months, the woman died from adrenal carcinoma, a rare form of cancer that was diagnosed in September 2021 and from which she died at the end of June.

“She left the child a book for every future birthday until he grows up. He will grow up in the memory of his mother – her husband Antonio Salerno tells the newspaper – AIn April Laura had understood that there was nothing more to do, she wrote letters for us, so as not to leave us. She pretended to walk, then I discovered that she was filming videos for me and Tommaso, for when she would no longer be here. She wrote a letter for when our son enters the first year of middle school and to accompany him on the important days of his life”.

She entrusted a friend with the task of organizing her son's first communion, and she also decided on the funeral, which took place on June 30th in Antella (Florence), and one of her letters was read in front of hundreds of people.

Laura Lonzi taught at the Carraia school in Calenzano (Florence), for 13 years she had been a volunteer at the Misericordia di Campo di Marte, she had met her husband eight years ago at the Papeete in Milano Marittima. Today the body is being cremated and from tomorrow it will rest at the Antella cemetery.
