Marmolada, 7 dead, 8 injured, and 14 officially missing. Draghi: "A drama that is certainly unpredictable, but certainly depends on the deterioration of the environment and the climate situation.
“The numbers of this tragedy say that at the moment we have 7 deceased, of which 3 identified, we have 8 injured of which 2 in delicate conditions, we have 14 people that we define as claimed and reported, people for whom the relatives have come forward, of these 4 are of foreign origin. There are still 4 cars of which we have no news and they are all foreign cars”. Thus the president of the province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, from Canazei.
According to what has been learned, the recovery of the missing people on the side of the Marmolada will be very difficult, at least for the remains in the highest part of the road where the landslide arrived. This is because, it has been learned, it appears that some of the missing people have fallen into the crevasses that are found along the 'normal'.
However, it should be easier to recover the victims who, being in the lower part, were submerged by ice and debris: with the melting of the snow and with the help of excavators, it will be possible to proceed with a recovery attempt.

"Today I am here in Canazei to see for myself what happened, it is very important that we came. We made a technical operational point with those who collaborated in the operations. I am here to express the most sincere, affectionate and heartfelt closeness to the families of the victims and the injured": this is what Prime Minister Mario Draghi said when he arrived by car in Canazei (TN) after the collapse on the Marmolada.
“This is a drama that is certainly unpredictable, but certainly depends on the deterioration of the environment and the climate situation”, Draghi added. “Today Italy mourns these victims and is embracing them with affection, but the Government must reflect on what happened and must take measures so that what happened has a very low probability of happening again or can even be avoided”he concluded.
After this morning's interruption “we resumed drone operations and an hour ago we recovered another quantity of human remains, clothing and equipment”. For the next few days we have planned this type of activity with drones to identify the finds,” he added.
