Mimmo Paladino arrives at Palazzo Reale for the screening of his Quijote
Mimmo Paladino, director of the film “Quijote” screened in the Romantic Garden of Palazzo Reale, announced his arrival at the last minute, giving a surprise to the audience. “I am here tonight to tell you the story of this film and how a dream of mine came true.”
It was introduced by Mario Epifani, director of the Royal Palace of Naples, who organized the event to accompany the exhibition “Don Quixote between Naples, Caserta and the Quirinale: the cartoons and the tapestries” running until September 6. “An initiative,” he says, “that bears witness to the interest and creativity that Miguel de Cervantes’ novel has aroused in various arts, from painting to manufacturing, from music to cinema.”
“Being able to see my film on the big screen again this evening– declared Mimmo Paladino – It is an honor for me and a great pleasure. Film is a medium that leaves room for imagination just like Don Quixote, a visionary nomad who sees things that others do not see.
On the occasion of the four hundredth anniversary of the publication of Cervantes' book, in 2005 I organized an exhibition in Capodimonte. My desire was to also make a film and with Angelo Curti we made a 'short' of just over half an hour, making it fit into the planned budget. It was Marco Müller, director of the Venice Film Festival, who suggested that I make a longer film to present in Venice in 2006.
If for a painter, an artist going to Venice for the Biennale can represent a dream, it is even more so to be invited to the International Film Festival.".

Also present at the evening, organized as part of the SummerFest, was Cesare Accetta, director of photography of the film with Peppe Servillo and Lucio Dalla, protagonists in the roles of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, supported by an exceptional cast.
Mimmo Paladino defined it, before presenting it in Venice, as “a lunar film that asks to be seen while searching for the errant knight who is lost somewhere in each of us”.
The film was made in Sannio, Paladino's homeland, like the film "Infermo" that the master has just shot and is currently being edited, which is inspired by another masterpiece of world literature, the "Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri.
