Caserta. The mayor of Mondragone bans walking in bathing suits and bare-chested: heavy fines for transgressors.
This is what an ordinance signed by the new mayor of Mondragone Francesco Lavanga provides. “In a city like ours with a strong tourist vocation where beauty must be the protagonist – explains Lavanga – I feel the need to curb bad habits and behaviors that I feel are contrary to decorum and decency. The protection and improvement of the liveability of public spaces represents a strategic and priority objective of my municipal administration and the achievement of this goal absolutely cannot ignore an action of prevention and contrast of the most widespread phenomena of indecent behaviors that for me are the cause of a decline in the quality of life of my fellow citizens”. According to Lavanga, “seeing people walking on our seafront in an inappropriate way, in addition to constituting an element of discomfort and unease for the resident population and for the tourists visiting, could constitute an objective parameter of negative evaluation of the qualitative level of good living in our municipality, with consequent repercussions on the image and on the tourist offer. All this cannot and must not happen”. Violators will face a fine ranging from 25 to 500 euros.
