There is a suspect for manslaughter in the investigation into the death of Antonio Andriani, who fell into an artesian well in the Trapani area during his 40th birthday party.

This is a necessary act that will help the victim's family to appoint their own experts who will be able to attend the autopsy that will have to establish the exact cause of death. Eleven years ago he had recovered from a tumor and yesterday was not an ordinary anniversary: ​​for his fortieth birthday Antonio Andriani wanted a big party that would serve to chase away an ugly and distant memory and indicate a happy prospect for the future as he prepared to turn forty.

Instead, in the midst of the dancing, around midnight, the birthday boy took a few dance steps on a concrete slab covering an artesian well, delimited by a concrete tube that was slightly raised from the floor, almost as if it were a small stage.

But the slab gave way and the man sank 25 meters into that concrete cylinder, a third full of water. There was nothing that could be done for him. The dozens of friends and relatives, many of whom had come from Puglia (Andriani was originally from Molfetta) to Erice, on the seductive hills overlooking Trapani, went from joy to despair. The carabinieri were called, and the seriousness of the accident was immediately clear.

The body was recovered after four hours and the intervention of divers was necessary. Andreani was harnessed and pulled up. The coroner speaks of a deep wound to the head, caused by the impact during the fall, and this could be the cause of death, which occurred before the man came into contact with the water.

The forty-year-old - who had been living in Trapani for a few years where he successfully ran the headquarters of a company that deals with water and environmental purification - had a passion for music and for Renato Zero and had organized several concerts. He had recently received a commendation from the company he works for.

According to what witnesses told the Carabinieri of the Operational Department, coordinated by Colonel Andrea Pagliaro, during the evening the guests had thought of putting on some music and dancing in the well-paved space in front of the entrance to the villa. Shortly after, the tragedy occurred.

It is quite an effect to read the words of challenge and joy written exactly one year ago by Andreani on his Facebook profile: “Today I celebrate life, because yes, I was afraid, but I fought with all my strength, and I tell it. I caress life, just as it did with me. In the meantime I make myself comfortable and continue to travel. Cancer can be defeated”.
