Naples. Despite having saved the life of a motorcyclist involved in an accident on Via Vespucci, the 118 staff was still insulted and beaten up by the injured man's family last night.

As usual, the punctual association Nessuno Tocchi Ippocrate is reporting the latest attack (number 31 in 2022) on medical personnel.

“It is 4:13 am when the residents of Via Amerigo Vespucci in Naples hear a loud bang in the bus lane. A motorcyclist was involved in the accident. The operations centre immediately sends the emergency station 118 of Naples Piazza Garibaldi which is on site in a handful of minutes”.

It is written on the association's Facebook page. And then it continues:  “As usual, the welcome from the medical staff is not the same as that given to tourists in a holiday village, in fact it seems that the driver was lifted from inside the emergency vehicle and thrown near the injured man, reserving epithets for him that we won't list here.

Despite the insults, death threats and jostling, the patient was immobilized and transferred to the emergency room; his life is not in danger.
All this to highlight that despite the adversities and the ignorance of certain thugs we continue to carry out our work in "science and conscience", but let it be clear THIS IS NOT NORMAL. If a hostile climate persists with danger to the safety of the operators, we can not help anyone until after the arrival of the police! This is called "scene safety".

And then the final request: “As regards via Amerigo Vespucci, we ask the Municipality of Naples in the person of the mayor Gaetano Manfredi to take all measures to prevent accidents (speed bumps, cameras) on this main artery which is increasingly the scene of tragic events, just a few days ago another motorcyclist lost his life! Prevention!”.
