A sudden black smoke on the top of the crater caused more than a few concerns. Let's go in order. In the afternoon Vesuvius was surrounded as often happens by white clouds that gathered on the top of the crater. All normal. Then the clouds thinned out and a magnificent blue sky appeared.
Suddenly the Cone of Vesuvius was affected by the presence of a small but dense gust of dark cloud that appeared out of nowhere. It seemed to those who noticed it as "coming out of the crater".
The cloud was easily visible in the entire area surrounding Vesuvius and was noticed in particular by the bathers of Ercolano who are lucky enough to enjoy a spectacle that is nothing short of sublime: the sea behind them, from where you can see the whole gulf from Naples, up to Sorrento, with Capri in front and on the opposite side on the mainland Vesuvius is magnified in all its grandeur surrounded by the splendid Vesuvian villas.

It is from the sea that this anomalous dark cloud was noticed. In the past there have been fires on Vesuvius that reduced Vesuvius to a real "burning log" but they burned the trees that were along the back of the volcano. The smoke from each seemed to come out from inside the cone.
Perhaps it could have been a sudden release of substances such as sulphur, experts have not yet expressed their opinion on the matter but the fact remains that Vesuvius, magnificent and imposing at the same time, immediately arouses concern among its inhabitants.
