When reporter Romeu Arede found himself in front of a crowd dancing in a famous club in Rio de Janeiro, he was horrified. He scornfully called that chaos “Gafieira,” borrowing the French term “gaffe,” a clumsy, awkward movement.

The gafieira will then become a real musical genre characterized by transforming songs from different sources into a wild and dreamy dance. The Topica Orchestra is a small dance orchestra that draws inspiration from the spirit of the gafieira, proposing rhythms that range from choro to maxixe, through samba and polka, up to incursions into Italian dance music.

Choro was born in Rio de Janeiro in the second half of the 800th century from the fusion of European dances and African rhythms. With its unmistakable and captivating character, it is a style that combines cultured and popular music, virtuosity and singability, listening and dancing. It is still considered the most important instrumental music in Brazil and has been defined by Heitor Villa-Lobos, one of the country's greatest composers, as "the essence of the Brazilian musical soul".

The contribution is 15 euros per person, including entrance, free visit to the museum collection and musical performance.

Entrance is from 19:00 pm and at 20:00 pm, at dusk, you will take your place in the amphitheater of the Pietrarsa Railway Museum, where the concert will take place.
