Man pays hitman on dark web to kill love rival: reported.

The State Police has in fact identified and reported to the Judicial Authority for aggravated threats, through complex investigations characterized by high technical content, a user who, taking advantage of the anonymity guaranteed by the so-called 'dark part' of the Internet, the Darkweb, had made a payment in cryptocurrencies to commission another user, administrator of a site specialized in contract killings, to kill a rival in love.

In particular, the investigation, carried out by the Postal and Communications Police Service, in collaboration with the Postal Police of Venice and Treviso, under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Treviso, originates from an international cooperation activity with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The American specialists had informed the Postal Police about a 45-year-old from Treviso who was a potential victim of a paid 'service' of contract murder. The first investigations on the network, carried out by the Postal Police Section of Treviso, allowed them to give a name and surname to the victim, who, thanks to the Public Safety Commissioner of Conegliano, was subjected to a confidential protection activity to guarantee his safety.

Further investigations delegated by the Treviso Public Prosecutor's Office and carried out by the Postal and Communications Police Service and the Postal Police of Venice, have allowed the identification of important telematic traces connected to the payments made, thus allowing the 'instigator' of the contract killing to be traced, a 34-year-old from the province of Treviso.

The motive behind the murderous intent lies in the impossibility of being reciprocated sentimentally by the victim's young girlfriend, with whom the instigator is secretly in love. Hence the criminal plan that came to life on the Darkweb and that would have allowed the lover, if the criminal plan was carried out, to be able to freely court the woman.

The subsequent judicial police activity delegated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Treviso to charge the instigator of the murder, carried out by the Postal Police of Venice and Treviso, with the assistance of the Conegliano Police Station, made it possible to obtain confirmation of the movements of money and cryptocurrencies from the virtual wallet of the instigator to that of the administrator of the contract killing site, who is currently only under investigation.

The entire judicial affair is characterized by some new aspects that deserve to be underlined. The occurred identification of a user operating on the Darkweb testifies that the unindexed part of the Net, where illicit goods and services are freely offered, until now considered impenetrable by the Police Forces, is no longer so.

The modern investigative techniques used by the Postal and Communications Police, in particular those for tracing cryptocurrency payments, allow, as in this case, to trace the owners of the cryptocurrency wallets.
