The start with the mini film festival, organized in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna, which this year is dedicated to Pier Paolo Pasolini, on the centenary of his birth. “Accattone” film from 1961, selected among the 100 Italian films to be saved, written and directed by Pasolini, is the first of the three works included in the mini festival that the Charlot dedicates to cinema (the film will be screened tomorrow and Monday at 20 pm, with free admission until all seats are taken).

A work that marks Pasolini's directorial debut, Accattone can be considered the cinematic transposition of his previous literary works. In this film he pursues his own idea of epic and tragic narration. The film is a metaphor for that part of Italy made up of the sub-proletariat who live in the outskirts of big cities without any hope for an improvement in their condition, for whom death is the only way out of a desperate condition.

Presented at the 22nd Venice Film Festival on August 31, 1961, Pasolini's film received harsh protests. At the film's premiere at the Barberini cinema in Rome, a group of young neo-fascists tried to prevent the screening, throwing ink bottles at the screen, paper bombs and fennel into the audience. There were scuffles and the screening of the film was suspended for almost an hour. The film was released in theaters on November 22, 1961. The film was blocked by the censorship of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment and withdrawn from all theaters.
