Redevelopment of the Royal Lagni: “It will be the largest eco-friendly river park in Italy”.
They are the Regi Lagni, a work of extraordinary hydraulic engineering commissioned by the Spanish rulers at the end of the 1500th century, which in the following centuries up to the present day has been abandoned, attacked, poisoned, making it a true symbol of neglect and oppression, often the subject of judicial investigations for pollution and building speculation.
At the end of next September, the Land studio of the German landscape architect Andreas Kipar will deliver the preliminary design document to the Consorzio di Bonifica del Volturno, the lead body identified by the Agency for Territorial Cohesion and the Ministry for Southern Italy. From that moment, the tender for the executive design will be held, with completion of the works expected by 2026.
"The target – explains Francesco Todisco, commissioner of the Consorzio di Bonifica del Volturno, the regional body that has jurisdiction over the maintenance of the Regi Lagni – it is the creation of the largest river park in Italy, among the largest in Europe: 57 km of watercourse - from the lower Irpina and the Nolano crossing Acerra and Caivano, the lower province of Caserta and flowing onto the Domitian coast, between the Caserta area and the metropolitan area of Naples - and approximately 700 hectares involved.
Tree rows, cycle paths, the preservation of the agricultural production landscape, an ecological corridor that will act as a slow highway with its various branches that connect to the existing beauties are planned: the Royal Palaces of Carditello and Caserta, the archaeological excavations, until finally returning to the sea waters that are finally regulated and, above all, clean after having crossed half of Campania”.
