Salerno. Coinciding with a summer season characterised by high temperatures and significant drought, factors that cause water shortages with consequent state of emergency, the military of the Carabinieri Forestale Group of Salerno they pay particular attention, in carrying out services for the control and protection of environmental matrices, to the exploitation of watercourses and aquifers.
Along the banks of the Picentino River, in the stretch where it crosses the municipality of Giffoni Sei Casali, the military of the San Cipriano Picentino Forestry Carabinieri Station discovered 2 illegal collection points; the water was collected with two self-priming pumps powered by internal combustion engines, mobile equipment equipped with distribution pipes and used for irrigation purposes. The military proceeded to identify the user of the devices and to contest administrative violations for an amount of up to 40.000 euros.
The military personnel of the Sarno Forestry Carabinieri Station, during an inspection aimed at verifying the regularity of atmospheric emissions in an extraction quarry, discovered an active but unauthorized water extraction well without a flow meter. They then proceeded to place the well under administrative seizure and notified the competent Administrative Authority for the necessary checks.
Unauthorised abstractions, which are therefore devoid of meters and flow studies, do not allow for the monitoring and control of the minimum vital flow, i.e. the minimum quantity of water capable of guaranteeing the natural ecological integrity and the continuation of a surface or underground watercourse and therefore the minimum limit beyond which no further abstractions should be made.
